Las condiciones que hacen que un riesgo sea asegurable son (a) el riesgo asegurado debe producir una pérdida definida que no esté bajo el control del Asegurado, (b) debe haber un gran número de exposiciones homogéneas sujetas a los mismos peligros, (c) la la pérdida debe ser calculable y el costo de asegurarla debe ser económicamente factible, (d) el peligro debe ser improbable que afecte a todos los Asegurados simultáneamente, y (e) la pérdida producida por un riesgo debe ser definitiva y tener el potencial de ser financieramente grave .
